This release brings Slide Presenter to Forge! Forge is Atlassian’s new serverless development platform for marketplace apps. It’s not just technical detail, it brings some amazing advantages for you:
-
🏢 Completely operated by Atlassian. All data is stored and computed in Atlassian infrastructure. All your data stays in the same place!
-
🐎 Fast and future-proof. Forge is built for tighter and faster integrations between our apps and Atlassian products. For example, rendering macros is considerably faster now!
-
🌳 Stable URLs per presentation. Gone are the days where presentation URLs had to be signed with parameters that only lasted 15 minutes. From now on, you can share and bookmark presentation URLs!
-
🔒 Soon to come Complete egress control. All your data stays inside Atlassian infrastructure - and soon, you can even choose which external content your presentations are allowed to load. Allow everything? Just YouTube or your internal dashboards? Or nothing at all? You decide - a dream for security audits! We’re ready to ship this feature and only wait for Atlassian to ship some bugfixes - learn more here.
Your data will automatically be migrated from Connect to Forge.
🥼 Attention on the analytics settings
Heads up: The analytics settings have moved to the global theme management page.
Atlassian introduced a central “Analytics access” switch in the Connected apps admin area (learn more about where it is and what it does on the Atlassian Support website). We will move the Slide Presenter analytics settings to use this switch in the near future. Unfortunately, we cannot migrate your current settings to that switch - its value will be whatever your default setting is. That’s why we’re introducing a grace period:
Please choose your prefered analytics settings and set them on the Connected apps admin area. The switch has no function at the moment, but with the next release, this will be the setting used.
🏅 What about “Runs on Atlassian”?
Will Slide Presenter be compliant with the “Runs on Atlassian” badge?
We certainly hope so! For the time being, we simply cannot, for two reasons:
-
Because we migrate your themes and settings automatically when you upgrade, we have to talk to our old backend system and fetch the migration data there. This external communication is not eligible for RoA.
-
The customer-managed egress feature is still missing some required features we have to wait for. Until this feature is in place, we need to allow all egress so that all your precious presentation content, like embedded dashboards, YouTube videos etc. keeps on working. But allowing all egress is not eligible for RoA as well.
When the migration window closes, we will remove the external dependency, activate customer-managed egress and then hopefully be “Runs on Atlassian”! Learn more about it here.
New features in this release
There’s even more in this release:
-
📺 The presentation dialog now lets you choose where to open the presentation: in a new tab (default and the old behavior), in the current tab, or 🆕 in fullscreen right away? Learn more in the dialog documentation!
-
🖼️ Our background macro now features a beautiful image file picker - you can enter external URLs or pick an image attachment of the current page.
-
📑 Slide Presenter now supports two new macros: the new cloud tab macro (still EAP) and the sync block macro.
-
🏌️♀️ Slide Presenter now has an Onboarding page to guide you through the basic setup. It appears on initial installation and can be found in “Connected Apps” or the theme list.
What’s next?
We are excited for two next moves:
-
We’ll improve features on cloud to use Slide Presenter for Digital Signage - now that this is technically possible, we’re happy to finally dive into that.
-
If there’s interest, we will release a “Runs on Atlassian” eligible Zero Egress version of Slide Presenter as a separate app on the marketplace. Get in touch if you are interested!
We’d love to hear from you: What do you want Slide Presenter to do next?
Happy presenting!
